Fix iBooks Crash/ Error on Jailbroken iOS 4.2.1

Apple is getting harder with Jailbreakers, and they are now penalizing JAlbroken devices by erroring out on launch of iBooks. Comex discovered that the app was checking if the operating system allowed it to execute an unsigned binary, and if it did, the book wouldn?t open. The good news is that both PwnageTool 4.2 and [...]

It appears Google have simply just removed the Facebook Contact List Sync, if you’ve downloaded the Nexus S Gingerbread update, then you’ll of probably already noticed this feature, now this is something I don’t in fact use, but know how useful it can be, combined with the amount of battery life it drains having your [...]

Did The iPad 2 Just Leak Out?

Is this the iPad 2? Nearly everything lines up with the leaked info: flat back with tapered edges, speaker in the bottom corner, camera up top. It even matches-up with most of the leaked cases. If it's not the real thing, it's a damn good render. I'm sold. The only thing missing is the rumored mystery connection found on a couple of leaked cases. It's widely thought after last week's MacBook Pro refresh, this hole is for a Thunderbolt portas it would effectively replace a USB connection while providing additional functions. March 2nd can't get here soon enough.

Gaikai beta goes live, brings Mass Effect 2, Dead Space 2, Sims 3 and Second Life demos to your browser window

Remember Gaikai, the cloud computing service that lets you demo video games in your browser window without downloading a thing? It's live, meaning it's no longer just us tech journalists that get to give it a thorough try. Provided you have a blazing fast internet connection and both Flash and Java installed, four streaming game demos are a just a click (and possibly a survey, or a short wait) away, including three EA titles (Mass Effect 2, Dead Space 2, The Sims 3) and Second Life. As we discovered in our initial hands-on, it's not a flawless experience even with a fantastic internet connection, but it's not meant to be -- the entire point is to allow you to adequately sample a game right before making a purchase decision. It's also a free taste of the future, and you don't see those every day.

HTC Merge first hands-on! (video)

HTC just rolled in to set up for our San Francisco reader meetup tonight, and what's this? They brought a brand-new HTC Merge with them. No one's talking about what carrier this interesting Android slider is going to launch on yet, but that Verizon-red earpiece and search button aren't exactly coy. Apart from that, it's pretty much exactly the device we've seen leaked all over for months now -- a really nice landscape Android slider with a solid keyboard. More pics in the gallery, and a video after the break!

Modder turns RROD-stricken Xbox 360 into PS3 arcade controller, awesomeness

In the most recent of Xbox 360 hacks, a modder named Morris has crafted a PS3 controller out of none other than -- as ironic as this may seem -- a dead Xbox 360. That's right, somewhere out there, a PlayStation 3 has slain its mortal enemy, mercilessly gutted the internals and now has a modded Xbox as its eternal slave. The case contains all of the buttons you need to partake in a classic beat-'em-up -- a joystick, the four PlayStation buttons, R1 and R2. There's plenty more to gander at in the source link and enough in the way of detail and instruction to get started on your own arcade stick too.

Microsoft Research shows off next-generation gesture interfaces, Kinect integration, other neato stuff (video)
Leave it to Microsoft Research to show off some cool stuff that may or may not actually happen on any thing you ever actually buy. Check out the video after the break to see the latest, Director of Microsoft Applied Sciences Steven "Stevie B" Bathiche showing off a variety of interesting interfaces. It all starts with gesture controls that take you well beyond the touchscreen, relying on a retro-reflective sash and a camera to detect hand position. But, things quickly progress to a flat lens called a wedge that can enable holographic-like imagery. Pair that with a Kinect and perspective shifts come into play, tracking your face to enable you to peer around like looking out a window. It's all just waiting for you below -- and maybe IRL sometime in the future.

Samsung's Google TV delayed by Intel exclusivity agreement?

Samsung's been waffling on Google TV for quite some time -- prototypes aside -- and now Bloomberg thinks it might know the reason why. According to an anonymous source, Mountain View's been requiring that OEMs use Intel's CE4100 chip in their television products, and as any self-respecting chipmaker might be expected to do, Samsung declined. Now, with Google TV's efforts to break into the living room floundering, the search giant has allegedly lifted the restriction and allowed Samsung to use its own silicon, meaning we'll likely see Google TV running on a certain dual-core ARM in the months to come. Anything to save us from Smart TV, right?

2010 In Movies, As Seen On Foursquare [Graphic]

It's Oscar weekend so of course every social media service, smart phone app and "tech" blog is going to find some movie angle to remind you that they exist. And because I tend to write the more fluffy cultural pieces, I will be stuck writing about them, even though I hate Hollywood and celebrities of the non-YouTube or TopCoder variety. But Foursquare's map of 2010 movie checkin frequency (above) is an exception to the "blatant attempt to glom publicity off of an 'important' event rule," and deserves reposting. And yes, the mention of Sex In the City 2 on the pink side of the Venn Diagram here makes me ashamed for my gender. Very ashamed.

Flavorize.com Looking For $1 Million To Build ?Pandora For Food?

According to a late Thursday SEC filing the New York City startup behind Flavorize.com, FlavorMetrics Corp., is seeking a $1 million investment to build a "Pandora for food." The company's web and mobile app is now in private beta. Currently, Flavorize.com allows users in New York City or San Francisco to enter a few key attributes of meals that they enjoyed before ? including ingredients, a restaurant or location where they ate something delicious, a specific dish, or a flavor ? to generate suggestions, based on the wisdom (and palate) of the crowds, as to what they might try next. The startup ? co-founded by chief executive Eunice Chou and engineering lead Franco Yuvienco ? will compete for users and dollars against a huge number of search and recommendation tools that are already helping people find recipes and restaurants online...

How to make Subdomains on Localhost

Developing websites on localhost may sometimes need making of sub domains. Installing and running another server for this purpose is useless, consumes more resources etc. So here is the technique to make sub domains on localhost.
So here is the technique to make sub domains on localhost.

You can also use this to host more than one site on localhost. i.e, you can host multiple sites situated on different folders.
PS: This is for Apache-Windows configuration. (If you have info about other Server-OS configs please let me know.)

Steps

First decide on the subdomain names...
for eg:
sub.localhost, sub2.localhost, alt.localhost , images.localhost etc..
You can also name www.name.com. (Please note that if there is a site with that name on the net, you wont be able to access that site on the internet.)

Second making these sites to point to 127.0.0.1, for this you can edit the HOSTS file on windows. See this about the HOSTS file.

Now add to HOSTS line
127.0.0.1 hostname
Egs:

127.0.0.1 sub.localhost
127.0.0.1 sub1.localhost
127.0.0.1 sub2.localhost
127.0.0.1 images.localhost
127.0.0.1 www.mysiteonmycomp.com

Next we have to assign each of these different URL's to different folders.
This is done on the apache conf file. (httpd.conf file situated in apache\conf\ directory)

Scroll all the way down the httpd.conf file until you reach about Virtual Hosts.
Add

NameVirtualHost *:80 #(This line was commented before)

ServerName subdomain name.localhost OR yoursite.com
DocumentRoot Path to the server root, See examples.
DirectoryIndex index.php index.html index.html index.htm index.shtml

Egs:

ServerName sub.localhost
DocumentRoot "C:/public_html/sub"
DirectoryIndex index.php index.html index.html index.htm index.shtml

ServerName images.localhost
DocumentRoot "C:/public_html/images"
DirectoryIndex index.php index.html index.html index.htm index.shtml

ServerName site.com
DocumentRoot "C:/public_html/site"
DirectoryIndex index.php index.html index.html index.htm index.shtml

Test the configurations (using apache -t)
All done!
